Finding Success in Scary Times
Are you feeling the impact of fear and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 situation? I was astounded during a routine visit to the grocery store last Thursday to see the mobs grabbing their limit of bottled water... and the sign at the entrance announcing the toilet paper was gone.
As the market and your clients REACT to the news, I invite you to RESPOND instead. This is an opportunity for you to lead your team and your clients through the situation... with Vision, Traction, and Health!
I received the "Scary Times Success Manual" from Dan Sullivan at Strategic Coach yesterday. I want to share it with you. It outlines 10 fear-based mindsets to FORGET and offers 10 'turnarounds" or ways to FOCUS and take action toward success!

Book I Listened To
A family member told me they really liked this book so I listened to it this week. The Like Switch is by Jack Schafer, an ex-FBI agent and psychologist.
Over his career, he used techniques and tactics to get people to trust him so they would spy on their country, confess to crimes, etc. He realized that the same techniques and behaviors he had so carefully constructed to manipulate people in his FBI field work also work when the motivation to develop relationships with other people is genuine.
I really liked the models he developed to describe the science of what makes people like each other. One I'll mention here is the Friendship Formula which states that Friendship = Proximity + Frequency + Duration + Intensity. The idea is to look at relationships you want to enhance, assess the four components and determine if there is one or more areas you can amp up to make the friendship better.
Other great ideas in the book include The Golden Rule of Friendship, Body Language (including Friend Signals & Enemy Signals) Conversation Cues, and Relationships in a Digital World.
I found The Like Switch to be a fascinating and useful listen. (6 hours at 1.25 speed)
FIX THE FEAR OF CONFLICT FOR GOOD!
Written by Dan Wallace, March 12, 2020
"In an EOS® Annual Planning session, our clients put “Fear of Conflict” and “Failure to Hold Each Other Accountable” on their Issues List. Those issues are obviously connected. Yet when it came time to solve issues, the team chose to work on just about anything but those two. They were, it turned out, afraid of the conflict they might experience if they tried to figure out why they were afraid of conflict.
This was clearly the elephant in the room, so we finally called it out and asked them to deal with it."
